When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you rest, your sleep will be sweet.

I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for bread to eat—for He gives sleep to His beloved.

Do not love sleep, or you will grow poor; open your eyes, and you will have plenty of food.

I lie down and sleep; I wake again, for the LORD sustains me.

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest,

How long will you lie there, O slacker? When will you get up from your sleep?

He will not allow your foot to slip; your Protector will not slumber. Behold, the Protector of Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the deadly plague. He will cover you with His feathers; under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, . . .

Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was engulfed by the waves; but Jesus was sleeping.

Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

The sleep of the worker is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of the rich man permits him no sleep.

“Go away,” He told them. “The girl is not dead, but asleep.” And they laughed at Him.

so a man lies down and does not rise. Until the heavens are no more, he will not be awakened or roused from sleep.

A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for the sake of His name. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. He went inside and asked, “Why all this commotion and weeping? The child is not dead, but asleep.”

Brothers, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who are without hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him. His disciples replied, “Lord, if he is sleeping, he will get better.”

You will keep in perfect peace the steadfast of mind, because he trusts in You.

Strengthen the limp hands and steady the feeble knees! Say to those with anxious hearts: “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance. With divine retribution He will come to save you.” Then the eyes of the blind will be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then the lame will leap like a deer and the mute tongue will shout for joy. For waters will gush forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.

But Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on the cushion. So they woke Him and said, “Teacher, don’t You care that we are perishing?”

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.

Then he lay down under the broom tree and fell asleep. Suddenly an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.”

In a dream, in a vision in the night, when deep sleep falls upon men as they slumber on their beds,

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe in Me as well. In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? My son, do not lose sight of this: Preserve sound judgment and discernment. They will be life to your soul and adornment to your neck. Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you rest, your sleep will be sweet.

Then the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting. No entertainment was brought before him, and sleep fled from him.

They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. No longer will they build houses for others to inhabit, nor plant for others to eat. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.

Then He returned to the disciples and said, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

Falling on his knees, he cried out in a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

And the LORD answered, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

Behold, the Protector of Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

Consider me and respond, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death,

I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids,

Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will dwell securely.

“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted over the earth.”

Laziness brings on deep sleep, and an idle soul will suffer hunger.

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will uphold you with My right hand of righteousness.

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.

As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and suddenly great terror and darkness overwhelmed him.

On the night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, with sentries standing guard at the entrance to the prison.

“Is not man consigned to labor on earth? Are not his days like those of a hired hand? Like a slave he longs for shade; like a hireling he waits for his wages. It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, or for rulers to crave strong drink, lest they drink and forget what is decreed, depriving all the oppressed of justice. . . .

For those who sleep, sleep at night; and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.

That night sleep escaped the king; so he ordered the Book of Records, the Chronicles, to be brought in and read to him.

Night and day he sleeps and wakes, and the seed sprouts and grows, though he knows not how.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, for to this you were called as members of one body. And be thankful.

I will make with them a covenant of peace and rid the land of wild animals, so that they may dwell securely in the wilderness and sleep in the forest.

When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe the task that one performs on the earth—though his eyes do not see sleep in the day or even in the night—

Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are ever before Me.

When I think my bed will comfort me and my couch will ease my complaint, then You frighten me with dreams and terrify me with visions,

Return to your rest, O my soul, for the LORD has been good to you.

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, To the saints and faithful brothers in Christ at Colossae: Grace and peace to you from God our Father. We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard about your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all the saints— the faith and love proceeding from the hope stored up for you in heaven, of which you have already heard in the word of truth, the gospel . . .

Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on that day He rested from all the work of creation that He had accomplished.

Do not envy wicked men or desire their company; for their hearts devise violence, and their lips declare trouble. By wisdom a house is built and by understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with every precious and beautiful treasure. A wise man is strong, and a man of knowledge enhances his strength. . . .

For I want you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me face to face, that they may be encouraged in heart, knit together in love, and filled with the full riches of complete understanding, so that they may know the mystery of God, namely Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I say this so that no one will deceive you by smooth rhetoric. For although I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit, and I delight to see your orderly condition and firm faith in Christ. . . .

This is the revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants what must soon come to pass. He made it known by sending His angel to His servant John,

There remains, then, a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For whoever enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from His. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same pattern of disobedience.

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when men prosper in their ways, when they carry out wicked schemes.

And I heard a voice from heaven telling me to write, “Blessed are the dead—those who die in the Lord from this moment on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labors, for their deeds will follow them.”
