Let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building up the one in need and bringing grace to those who listen.
Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk, or crude joking, which are out of character, but rather thanksgiving.
If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not bridle his tongue, he deceives his heart and his religion is worthless.
but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With the tongue we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, this should not be!
But now you must put aside all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Nor should you swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black. Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ Anything more comes from the evil one.

Consider ships as well. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot is inclined. Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

In everything, show yourself to be an example by doing good works. In your teaching show integrity, dignity, and wholesome speech that is above reproach, so that anyone who opposes us will be ashamed to have nothing bad to say about us.
