If anyone does not provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
But if a widow has children or grandchildren, they must first learn to show godliness to their own family and repay their parents, for this is pleasing in the sight of God.
Honor your father and mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
You are to rise in the presence of the elderly, honor the aged, and fear your God. I am the LORD.

Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.
If any believing woman has dependent widows, she must assist them and not allow the church to be burdened, so that it can help the widows who are truly in need.

What good is it, my brothers, if someone claims to have faith, but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. So I advise the younger widows to marry, have children, and manage their households, denying the adversary occasion for slander.

But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.
Wisdom is found with the elderly, and understanding comes with long life.
In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the Prophets.

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Outdo yourselves in honoring one another.

Elders who lead effectively are worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching.

For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and He chastises every son He receives.” Endure suffering as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you do not experience discipline like everyone else, then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. Furthermore, we have all had earthly fathers who disciplined us, and we respected them. Should we not much more submit to the Father of our spirits and live? . . .

Young men, in the same way, submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
