If anyone does not provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.
But if a widow has children or grandchildren, they must first learn to show godliness to their own family and repay their parents, for this is pleasing in the sight of God.
Honor your father and mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, ‘Whatever you would have received from me is Corban’ (that is, a gift devoted to God), he is no longer permitted to do anything for his father or mother. Thus you nullify the word of God by the tradition you have handed down. And you do so in many such matters.”
Whoever curses his father or mother, his lamp will be extinguished in deepest darkness.
If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death. He has cursed his father or mother; his blood shall be upon him.
Do not rebuke an older man, but appeal to him as to a father. Treat younger men as brothers,
You are to rise in the presence of the elderly, honor the aged, and fear your God. I am the LORD.
Near the cross of Jesus stood His mother and her sister, as well as Mary the wife of Clopas and Mary Magdalene. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (which is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life on the earth.”
He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age. For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and is better to you than seven sons, has given him birth.”
So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
When you sit down to dine with a ruler, consider carefully what is set before you, and put a knife to your throat if you possess a great appetite. Do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive. Do not wear yourself out to get rich; be wise enough to restrain yourself. When you glance at wealth, it disappears, for it makes wings for itself and flies like an eagle to the sky. . . .
The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water so that I will not get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”
