A song of ascents. Of Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain; unless the LORD protects the city, its watchmen stand guard in vain.
And every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.
Complete your outdoor work and prepare your field; after that, you may build your house.
Go up into the hills, bring down lumber, and build the house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified, says the LORD.
Which of you, wishing to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost to see if he has the resources to complete it?
Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ but not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them: He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid his foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the torrent crashed against that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears My words and does not act on them is like a man who built his house on ground without a foundation. The torrent crashed against that house, and immediately it fell—and great was its destruction!”
By wisdom a house is built and by understanding it is established;
Then my people will dwell in a peaceful place, in safe and secure places of rest.
And my God will supply all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

The proud speech of a fool brings a rod to his back, but the lips of the wise protect them. Where there are no oxen, the manger is empty, but an abundant harvest comes through the strength of the ox. An honest witness does not deceive, but a dishonest witness pours forth lies. . . .
Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because its foundation was on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.
Now when Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he was furious and filled with indignation. He ridiculed the Jews before his associates and the army of Samaria, saying, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Can they restore the wall by themselves? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they complete it in a day? Can they bring these burnt stones back to life from the mounds of rubble?” Then Tobiah the Ammonite, who was beside him, said, “If even a fox were to climb up on what they are building, it would break down their wall of stones!” Hear us, O God, for we are despised. Turn their scorn back upon their own heads, and let them be taken as plunder to a land of captivity. Do not cover up their iniquity or let their sin be blotted out from Your sight, for they have provoked the builders. . . .
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope.

So this is what the Lord GOD says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; the one who believes will never be shaken.
He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid his foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the torrent crashed against that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.
This is what the LORD says: “Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. What kind of house will you build for Me? Or where will My place of repose be? Has not My hand made all these things? And so they came into being,” declares the LORD. “This is the one I will esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, who trembles at My word.
Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, for the Lord and not for men,
They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. No longer will they build houses for others to inhabit, nor plant for others to eat. For as is the lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people, and My chosen ones will fully enjoy the work of their hands.
Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.
A man’s heart plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.
You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.
And over all these virtues put on love, which is the bond of perfect unity.
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair or gold jewelry or fine clothes, but from the inner disposition of your heart, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in God’s sight.
built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone. In Him the whole building is fitted together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord. And in Him you too are being built together into a dwelling place for God in His Spirit.
I have indeed built You an exalted house, a place for You to dwell forever.”
As you come to Him, the living stone, rejected by men but chosen and precious in God’s sight, you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.
For no one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

In Him the whole building is fitted together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord. And in Him you too are being built together into a dwelling place for God in His Spirit.

The one who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know. But the one who loves God is known by God.
For Jesus has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.

Later, Solomon formed an alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt by marrying his daughter. Solomon brought her to the City of David until he had finished building his palace and the house of the LORD, as well as the wall around Jerusalem.

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear and obey what is written in it, because the time is near. Therefore I urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is dismantled, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.

‘May the LORD bless you and keep you; may the LORD cause His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
“Build houses and settle down. Plant gardens and eat their produce.

And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
I will show you what he is like who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them:
in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.
Finally, all of you, be like-minded and sympathetic, love as brothers, be tenderhearted and humble.
Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
The curse of the LORD is on the house of the wicked, but He blesses the home of the righteous.

Therefore encourage and build one another up, just as you are already doing.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
Now faith is the assurance of what we hope for and the certainty of what we do not see.
Give us this day our daily bread.
For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
‘May the LORD bless you and keep you; may the LORD cause His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the LORD lift up His countenance toward you and give you peace.’
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Outdo yourselves in honoring one another.
Share with the saints who are in need. Practice hospitality.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Carefully consider what is right in the eyes of everybody.
Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.
