These women were ministering to them out of their own means. While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, He told them this parable: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. And as he was sowing, some seed fell along the path, where it was trampled, and the birds of the air devoured it. . . .

Now this is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.

“Because I, the LORD, do not change, you descendants of Jacob have not been destroyed.

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

As God’s steward, an overseer must be above reproach—not self-absorbed, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not greedy for money. Instead, he must be hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the faithful word as it was taught, so that he can encourage others by sound teaching and refute those who contradict it.
